Those who have never suffered with acne cannot possibly understand the stress it causes; Fortunately, skin care treatments are plentiful. Many new remedies are proving very effective. Most acne skin care products can be broken down into three main areas:
- Over-the-counter Medication
- Internet or Drugstore Treatment remedies
- Prescription medicine by dermatologists
Those that fall into the preventative category are based around general skin conditioning. For example, toners and skin cleansers that have been formulated to help prevent acne. This is a market where many people use this type of product every day to condition their skin. They use these products to protect their skin from the environment even if they do not have the acne condition.
Some of these products are designed to act like an acne skin care product and act against the causes of this complaint. They work by limiting the production of sebum/oil and prevent clogging of skin pores. These types of products are reducing the chance of oil staying in the pores and aiding the growth of harmful bacteria which assists the formation of the skin condition.
One particular skin care treatment is an exfoliation skin peel which cleans the skin and helps control the spread of the condition. This type of peel helps reduce the chance of oil clogging up the pores as well as removing other skin impurities; this can reduce the bacterium growth on your skin.
There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. Skin care products have been formulated to extract the excess oil that bacteria need to promote the development of acne. These products have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as ingredients which the bacterium reacts badly too.
Generally it is best to start using this type of product with only a small amount of benzoyl peroxide; in fact no more than 5.5 percent is recommended just to see how the skin reacts. There are alternatives to this including products which contain alpha hydroxy acid. It might just be a case of trial and error, if nothing seems to work speak to your dermatologist for any advice or try a different acne skin care product.
Only doctors or skin care specialists can prescribe some medications, including the use of antibiotics and certain strong ointments. Your dermatologist may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules. Never try to squeeze your zits as it can lead to permanent damage of your skin and scarring of the tissue.
Hormone treatment might be suggested as hormone changes can lead to acne. This type of skin care treatment has been very effective in a large number of cases. There is no longer any reason to despair if you have this skin complaint or are prone to its effects. Science has produced many effective treatments for this unkind condition.
